What is the Church?

I came across this description from Jeremy Treat in the latest issue of Modern Reformation. It bears repeating:

The church…is the place where the reign of God is to be realized on earth as it is in heaven. The church is a signpost to the eternal kingdom of God, offering the present world a sneak preview of its eternal destiny, rid of evil and redeemed by Christ. The people of the gospel are the sphere in which Christ reigns through word and Spirit, and his character is put on display in the very lives he is changing.
